USCIS Leading on Agile Development and IT Modernization

With 19,000 government employees and contractors working at more than 200 offices across the world, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) plays a vital role in administering our nation’s lawful immigration system.

A critical element behind the agency’s mission is leveraging IT solutions that streamline all immigration services, while also strengthening our nation’s security. It is also embracing ways to enhance IT modernization that reduce overall technical debt.

Outcome-Based Delivery and DevOps design approaches continue to rise to the forefront at USCIS, and much of this effort can be realized through Pragmatic Agile Development.

Makpar has recently developed a comprehensive blog post series that highlights our overall future-focused Agile development approach, which is all about Lean Agile development – where business centrality, intelligence, and quality are all built-in to offer long-term business value through IT.

For example, through multi-team cross platform integration in Agile development, government agencies can achieve value by leveraging multiple teams that all deliver a piece of the puzzle through Program Increment (PI) planning.

In addition, security is paramount in Agile development. By automating the DevSecOps process with security, it is possible to ensure that applications are not exposed to any unforeseen vulnerabilities. Mapar continues to evolve its DevSecOps processes, and explore new solutions that apply Machine Learning regression models, which detect logs that are outside of the usual parameters.

The Makpar team is also well versed in how to deliver value by turning Epics into User Stories, which relies on predictable planning, and ultimately determines when the teams will deliver the Epic.

To gain further insights into Makpar’s Agile approach, be sure to check out this Q&A interview with Nickolas Sibley, the Agile Coach & Trainer at Makpar. Nickolas has been doing Agile for more than 20 years, and has worked with many Fortune 100 companies. He is aiming to bring this expertise to government, and make Agile development the foundation for all IT modernization efforts.

Makpar is pioneering pragmatic Agile development for government through methods such as Scrum, Kanban, and Lean development. Our Agile practice minimizes communication gaps between Development and Operations teams by expanding DevOps-based automation to the entire development lifecycle. Please click here to learn more.
