Q&A: Introduction to Martin Davis, Senior Solutions Architect at Makpar

Martin Davis and his latest catch

With 14 years of IT experience at the IRS, and the last nine years being an Enterprise Architect, Martin Davis recently joined Makpar as Senior Solutions Architect where he will play a role in supporting overall business development and growth for the company.

To officially introduce Martin to Makpar’s ecosystem of government customers, partners and employees, we recently sat down with him to get his take on why he joined the company, and gain his perspective on overall government IT trends.

The following conversation has been edited for length.

Q: Please tell us about your background.

I joined the IRS in 2007 and retired in September 2021. I was an Enterprise Architect and dealt with the development, management and integration of large enterprise systems. During this time, I was the Senior Architect overseeing the installation and rollout of Microsoft 365 throughout the agency. I also served for seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Q: Tell us about your role at Makpar.

I am a Senior Solutions Architect at Makpar, and I’ll be working with the business development team to support the technical solutioning on proposals and RFIs. I also look forward to helping the company to expand its offerings into other agencies that can benefit from Makpar’s nimble and agile IT approaches.

Q: Let’s dive into this concept further. Why did you choose to work at Makpar?

I actually have several friends who already worked at Makpar, and the company has a great reputation at the IRS. Makpar is definitely a “can-do” kind of company. I am very impressed by the entire team, and I was excited that they offered to bring me onboard.

I definitely believe that this will be a “win-win” situation that benefits both Makpar and myself.

Q: How do you see your role at Makpar evolving?

As I mentioned, I look forward to supporting many of the company’s business development efforts. I’ll be measuring my future success on helping Makpar to expand its overall footprint throughout many different agencies.

Q: Where do you think IT modernization in government is headed?

My personal experience is that government is attempting to modernize and reduce technical debt. Some agencies have moved to the cloud, and it makes a lot of sense.  And many agencies have achieved success with Software-as-a Service (SaaS) for their non-critical business apps such as email and Sharepoint.

The next foray will be into Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Service. It will be interesting to see how well the federal government can utilize these services in a cost-effective manner.

Q: Any personal information about yourself you would like share with our readers.

Don’t call me if the fish are biting! I live on the coast of North Carolina, and I really love doing both in-shore and offshore fishing during my free time.

We would like to thank Martin for taking the time to speak with us, and we officially welcome him to the Makpar team!
