Makpar Makes Project Management a Way of Life

When it comes to effectively developing and deploying government innovation, project management is the true foundation for success.

Makpar’s comprehensive IT program management approach focuses on people, processes, goals, and results to best help agencies meet mission-critical objectives. This is why we are excited to celebrate International Project Management Day, which highlights the vital role project managers play for organizations.

As a discipline, project management first emerged in the 1950s and was mainly driven by the engineering industry. Prior to this, large projects were typically managed on an ad-hoc basis through very informal techniques. Nearly two decades later, the Project Management Institute was launched and developed a wide-range of standards and research for advancing project management as we know it today.

As the PMO Manager at Makpar, Dan Montagna is pushing the company to new heights when it comes to project management for our government customers. He is focused on delivering consistency and reliability, and repeatable resource delivery, to the project teams and program managers that work directly with our clients.

Within this framework of the PMO, Dan focuses on building and doing more to improve our overall best practices and processes, while adhering to quality standards. He also focuses on developing reporting, and looking for new ways to improve Makpar’s existing systems and tools.

On a lighter note, Dan truly walks-the-walk when it comes to effective project management in many facets of his life. Dan actually owns what he calls a “micro-farm,” a ½ acre in size, he has chickens, gardens, vineyards, a bamboo grove and orchards (fruit, nut and maple trees for making maple syrup).

He applies Makpar’s project management principles when running many aspects of his micro-farm. From waste reduction to trenching projects to building new fences to managing his “team of chickens,” Dan covers the many bases of project management to run his property effectively.

Dan even put a five-year plan in place for a wide-range of farm improvement projects to iteratively approach future builds. This creative approach reinforces how Makpar’s approach to project management is not simply a goal, but a way of life!
